An ongoing log mainly concerned with the bowel movements of small mammals - or so it seems.
Tuesday, July 31, 2001 Hey $25 USD check from Amazon today. Thanks everybody! And after you subtrack all the salaries, hardware, advertizing, and wasted development time from the revenue of this, I'm probably making a bigger profit.
Let's get back to what this blog is all about...cat shit.
Came home last night to piles of it on the "cat chair" and I'm sure there's a few nuggets hidden cleverly for me to find later. I'm amazed at how desensitized I am to it now. Loobylu seems to be a cutesy little site but it's been the source of some entertaining sites recently - like this interesting read.
Monday, July 30, 2001 If I have time this week I'm hitting Archie McPhee's for a Urine Collection Kit. Never know when you'll need one.
Sunday, July 29, 2001 Saturday, July 28, 2001 If I hadn't drank so much Campari I'd have had all my new swag loaded up on the site. You can preview here on the CafePress site. Decided to simplify my shirts to the basic Craptastic C. New is the ball cap, tote bag, and for those remaining hot days left - the classic wifebeater
Wow sold 2 more mugs! More swag coming soon. I'm also going to bump up the the price of the mug slightly because CafePress raised their costs. Order now while it's still at $10.99!
Thursday, July 26, 2001 Wednesday, July 25, 2001 Monday, July 23, 2001 Sunday, July 22, 2001 Thursday, July 19, 2001 Wednesday, July 18, 2001 You know if I was making decisions that had a rather large impact on people's lives, I'd get a specific date hammered out before I called to say "hello". Information early and incomplete is one thing, information early, ambigous, and non-existant is another. Wonder when my train will come or if I'll be pushed blindly in front of it then backed over once or twice.
When's your train coming? I've made no secret about what I thought would happen in this place. Everyone of my predictions of 6 months ago has come to fruition. Tuesday, July 17, 2001 Monday, July 16, 2001 Sunday, July 15, 2001 Post Race Analysis:
We kicked ass - the event sucked ass Let see Vincent came out of the water 2nd or 3rd overall, I was the third cyclist back, and Derek pulled a sub 40 10K run. In the overall standings I think we were 3rd and we won the team event by 20 minutes. I was pleased with a 1:06 ride over 40K given the lack of "real" training.   Now for the interesting thing. When they posted the results we noticed that the overall time was correct but the individual sections nothing like what we had timed; they had added 10 minutes to my time on the bike and subtracted 10 minutes off of Dereks run (making his run a 25 minutes 10K). When they did the official presentations we found out that because they couldn't time us right that we were disqualified - even though we did exactly what we were supposed to in the race and our chip went across all the timing mats properly. Apparently, their inability to time was our fault. Nice. But that doesn't really suprise me the event was poorly organized to the exteme. My fears about the quality of the event was tipped off when I noticed Cyclepath was invloved (Cyclepath is a very shoddy bike store). This increased when they changed the bike course 2 days before the event. Then confirmed when 40 volunteers dropped out the day of the race and the run course changed. Let's not forget the sending the kids event out for a 20K bike instead of 8 and that the 10K run might not have actually been 10K. Maybe it was because a Jeff Spicoli look alike was the organizer. So DO NOT enter the Arbor Lake Triathlon next year unless you like shoddy events. Myself, I don't really care that much - just reinforces one of the many reasons I gave up racing in the first place. And it's not like we lost out on any great prize money since they only thing they gave out was icky travel mugs. I'm more disappointed for Vincent and Derek who are actually training seriously for these things and having accurate numbers from an event would help them for future reference. Saturday, July 14, 2001 Some days you think you smell something but you can't find anything. Then after a day or so you stumble on to the dried out nuggets.
Friday, July 13, 2001 Did I mention that just as my anxiety about this was going down they made a last minute change to the course? The reason for the change - looks like the police didn't like the great bike handling feats last year and thought disaster would ensue. Now it's a flat course we do twice. Nothing better than clogging a 10km stretch of road with 200 triathletes on bikes. Great just friggin great. I'm going to do really good now.....
How can you resist a sport with names like Udo Bolts, Thor Hushovd, and Bo Hamburger? It simply can't be beat.
Go Joseba! Thursday, July 12, 2001 Winning time in today's TT at the Tour de France - 67km in 1h21'32" (49.3kph). Here I was going to be happy if I could muster the strength to hold 35 as an average on Sunday. Quite depressing. But then that's what massive doses of EPO will do for you...
Wednesday, July 11, 2001 Noticed that it's supposed to rain on Sunday which is a given for any race held in Calgary involving bicycles. Great just great.
I'd say something about the additional layoffs that were announced yesterday but somehow it seems like such a non-event. Tuesday, July 10, 2001 What an exciting night! Hairball, bike ride, buy milk, nachos with guacamole, catnap on couch, watch Tour de France, mindless emails to former coworkers. Wonder if I could make a living being a hermit after this is over - have the lifestyle down and my plans of winning the lottery or being a kept man to some wealthy heiress don't seem to be panning out.
Monday, July 09, 2001 Saturday, July 07, 2001 One thing about travelling. When you come back, you get to find out what your house smells like to other people.
I deleted some un-used images to free up a few bytes just so I can post. It appears splorp is busting at the sides and is out of space.
Thursday, July 05, 2001 Oh yeah, and it distrupts my normal pattern of noncommitting and doing fuck all. Yes I fully admit it.
Okay I'm going to go over why I'm not anxious to do this bike leg.
Haven't done a time trial in 10 years - to come in cold to a 40 k one is kind of stupid. I can do the distance no problem but I haven't a clue what my time will be. In the old days I could do a distance like this and know I'd at least be within 10 minutes of the top rider easily - here I don't even know what a good time will be (1:30 is a conservative 30kmh I think I can do that). I hate racing, my competetive role model is Chevy Chase in Caddy Shack. Doing a road race is one thing - at least there's tactics - its polar opposite to just being a hammerhead for 40k - I'm built for mountain stage races not flat TTs. Haven't done any sort of riding this year that would prepare me to do this. I'm going into my usual July slump right now and I was going to take some time off the bike. Most importantly, I'm going to miss out of a hell of a good time with Barbara in Nacusp which would do more for my mental health than doing a fucking TT. Reasons for doing this thing: Haven't done this sort of thing in 10 years maybe I should. I'm the closest to my peak racing weight in about 5 years maybe I can pull something out of the hat. I know the course extremely well. Maybe it's the confirmation I need to prove once and for all I hate racing. I tend to do things to spite myself. I need more stress in my life right now. Here's to a positive mental attitude. As you can tell this has me rather agitated since this is the longest blog in while. Did I mention I hate triathlons... Brontë just took a crap on the toilet seat lid (which I normally keep down to prevent them from sipping toilet water). It's probably the most appropriate place she's ever left one for me.
Why am I agreeing to do this bloody bike leg of a triathlon when I could be having a relaxing weekend in the Slocan Valley getting loaded? WHY! Don't need the stress need to be out getting loaded.
